Welcome to the 2010 Bind-O-Rama
The Bonefolder's annual online exhibition.
Entry Deadline EXTENDED to October 31, 2010

The 2010 Bind-O-Rama will return to a more traditional format, but remember
even the traditional can be innovatively bound. Starting point for all
will be Pamela Leutz's recent book, The
Thread That Binds, published by Oak Knoll Books. In the last
issue The
Bonefolder introduced the book with the chapter on Craig Jensen.
“The Thread That Binds: Interviews with Private Practice
Bookbinders brings together 21 voices, all true representatives of the
vibrant and resurgent field that is the book arts in America today.
Telling their stories to Pamela Leutz one gains real insight into the
very different paths they followed, the challenges they face, their
successes, and how they are ensuring that their skills are passed on.
A must read for anyone considering working on their own in the field
or just interested in the history of the field.”
Binders interviewed are: Eleanore Ramsey, Tini Miura, Frank Lehmann,
Monique Lallier, Jan Sobota, Priscilla Spitler, Craig Jensen, Scott Kellar,
Sol Rebora, Timothy Ely, Catherine Burkhard, Jim Croft, Cris Clair Takacs,
Don Rash, Daniel Kelm, Peer Geraty, William Minter, Gabrielle Fox, Karen
Hanmer, Don Glaister, and Don Etherington.
As an additional incentive, the Guild of Book Workers' Lone Star Chapter
is organizing a REAL exhibition of bindings on Thread That Binds
that will open in Dallas, TX at Southern Methodist University in 2011.
Entries for the REAL exhibition will be due in April of 2011. Membership
in both the Guild and its Lone Star Chapter is required to participate
in the Lone Star Chapter's exhibition. If you are not a member of the
Guild of Book Workers, consider joining not just for this exhibition but
because it provides many benefits such as a first class Journal,
Newsletter, exhibitions, an annual conference and more. It is
a great value.
So, here is the plan: Order your set of sheets from Oak Knoll Books,
send in your intent-to-enter
form* to the Lone Star Chapter, start binding now and enter your work
in this Bind-O-Rama (entry deadline September 1, 2010) and then sit back
until April 2011 by which time you will have joined the Guild and Lone
Star Chapter and sent your actual binding in for the Chapter exhibition
opening at SMU. There will also be a printed catalog for the Lone Star
Chapter exhibition. Full
information is available on the Lone Star Chapter's NEW webpages.
* Although the intent to enter deadline
is March 15, 2010, please send in the forms even after that date to
help the Chapter plan for the opening at the Bridwell.
Past Bind-O-Ramas can be seen here.
