The Bonefolder: an e-journal for the bookbinder and book artist

Welcome

Vol 6, No. 1Cover

Growing out of the Book Arts Web, The Bonefolder is a peer-reviewed “open-access” e-journal for bookbinding and the book arts. Since fall of 2004, The Bonefolder has reached a global audience and contributed to the body of knowledge in the book arts both theoretically and practically.

The Bonefolder publishes significant articles by established and emerging authorities on a variety of book arts topics. These include hand bookbinding, teaching, business practice, the history of the book, the book as art, general tips & tricks, exhibitions, how-to technical articles, and reviews.

The namesake of The Bonefolder is Das Falzbein, a bookbinding journal which existed under various other names from 1927 to 1966 in Germany, providing generations of bookbinders with an important source of learning. While the trade and craft of bookbinding have changed greatly since then, it is hoped that our publication will inform and stimulate all levels of practitioners and lovers of the book as an artform and structure.

The Bonefolder is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and is archived as part of the New York University Library's contribution to LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) Humanities Project, an international cooperative project which developed open source software to provide librarians with an easy and inexpensive way to collect, store, preserve, and provide access to electronic journal content into the future.

Authors are encouraged to submit articles for publication and will find a link to the Submission Guidelines at the left. The editors welcome comments at <bonefolder@philobiblon.com>.
